The first annual ALIANŢA Awards Gala will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the beautiful National Museum of Women in the Arts, in Washington, DC. This formal dinner and reception will bring together leaders and luminaries to honor outstanding achievements in the Romanian-American community.

ALIANŢA is a new organization with the following mission: Alianta is a 501(c)3*, non-partisan alliance of organizations and professionals working to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between Romania and the United States. Alianta empowers Romanian and American institutions through education, networking, and facilitating opportunities that benefit the citizens of both nations.

AMERICAN AND ROMANIAN LEADERS CONVENE IN WASHINGTON, DC TO LAUNCH US-ROMANIAN PARTNERSHIP

Following Ukrainian Crisis, Leaders to Gather on October 2 for Alianta Inaugural Gala


WHAT:
In the aftermath of the Ukraine crisis and in light of America's need for close allies in Eastern Europe, leading Romanian Americans and Americans involved in Romania will gather on October 2 in Washington, DC, together with Romanian-American professionals and former US Ambassadors to launch Alianta, a DC-based organization focused on fortifying close ties between the two countries. Alianta is a network of networks, engaging all interested American individuals and organizations in the mission of keeping the US and Romania close cultural, economic, political, and military allies. Romania has worked closely with the US urging other European nations to stand together to preserve their independence.

"Now more than any time since the fall of the Berlin Wall 25 years ago, America needs to stay close to Eastern European nations such as Romania which share our democratic values," said Mark Gitenstein, President of Alianta, who served as President Obama's ambassador from 2009 to 2012.

"Many Americans -- Romanian Americans like me as well others -- understand that now is the time to pull together for the values we share," said Dan Dimancescu, Romanian Honorary Consul in Boston. "Alianta is designed to give us a voice and a presence in our nation's capital."

Honorees at the October 2 Gala dinner will include leading Romanian Americans and Americans who have made major contributions to the "alianta" between the US and Romania. They are:
� Mike Carroll, Founder and current President of Romanian Children's Relief and their Romanian partner charity, Fundatia Inocenti, photographer
� Ileana Orlich, Head of German, Romanian and Slavic Faculty and Director of the Arizona State University Romanian Studies Program
� Daniela Rus, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT

Participants include the Romanian Medical Association of America, Friends of Romania (returned Peace Corps volunteers who served there), and the Chicago-based Romanian Cultural Exchange.

Alianta is seeking a part-time Executive Director to develop Alianta�s existing projects, as well as design and implement new projects to promote the Romanian-American partnership and raising Romania�s profile in the U.S. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with non-profit project management, event planning, administration, and fundraising. Communications experience or social media proficiency are also sought, as is experience developing and executing a budget.

Executive Director � Part Time
The Executive Director reports to the Alianta Board President and is responsible for the organization's achievement of its mission, projects, and financial objectives.

Develop funding sources and expand base of Romanian-American supporters:
- Oversee (semi)annual Awards Gala and other fundraising/friend-raising events.
- Develop and manage revenue-producing and mission-focused programs.
- Seek and manage financial and professional resources/partnerships to ensure the sustainability of the organization.
- Maintain personal contact with key supporters in the U.S and Romania.
- Keep Alianta�s contacts connected to its programs through timely communications via web page, social media, email, and printed materials.
- Research potential supporters, donors, or grants to support mission centric programs.
Program Development and Administration:
- Assure that the organization has and follows a long-term strategy to achieve its mission.
- Provide leadership in developing programs and organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors; carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
- Recruit and manage volunteers/interns to support the work of Alianta.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Develop and maintain sound financial practices, including proper internal controls on expenditures and timely processing of donations and bills payable.
- Work with the Board in preparing a budget; ensure Alianta operates within budget guidelines.
- Provide administrative support to the Board.
